Miranda Kuo Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Cosmic Love/Rosy Dawn, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Munich-based artist Alina Birkner, on view at 136 Eldridge Street from Nov. 2nd - 30th. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition in New York and first with Miranda Kuo Gallery.
Cosmic Love/Rosy Dawn will feature a series of luminous, shimmering, colorful paintings from her latest series of experimental paintings. Birkner’s works follow the visual phenomena of James Turrell in which color combinations and blurring of light creates a visual tension that challenges human engagement with space.
As one approaches Birkner’s paintings, it is difficult to know where to look first, as the colors expand from their canvas and vie for the viewer’s attention. The paintings have broken their material confines and illuminate the room, soaking the viewer with visual warmth. Perhaps Birkner’s paintings hold the secrets of another dimension, as if the sunrise from another universe has found its way into the room.
Alina Birkner was born in 1989 in Munich. She received her BA from the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and Jean- Marc Bustamente. Birkner’s works have recently been included in various exhibitions at Viennacontemporary 2016 with Jecza Gallery; Diplom 2016 at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich; a group show at easy!upstream, Munich; and a solo show “I’m a rainbow, too” at Centercourt Gallery.
